Galle was an international port until the Colombo port was developed in the 19th century. Galle harbour was frequented by Chinese sailors and Arabians before the protégées occupied Galle in the 16 century.
The Dutch captured in 1640 and handed over the British in 1796. It is 90 acres fort built by the Dutch in 1663. It is characterized by strong ramparts, and a series of Bastian including sun, moon, Neptune, z wart, aurora, Aeolus, Triton, Clippenburg and Utrecht. This now a heritage site.

The madu river estuary and mangrove islets are complex coastal wet land situated in Galle district. diverse ,vegetation, including mangroves , mangrove mixed swarms, brackish marshes, remnant y, low land rainforest harboured more than 300 plants, spices,. There are total of 111 birds which are endemic and 24 spices mammals white and spices are endemic.
Hikkaduwa is very popular with tourists of all ages. It is 98 km from Colombo. Underwater world of colourful corals and shoals of bright collared fish can be explored either by snorkelling, diving, or taking trip by glass bottom boat and place for surfing.
